The 963 21 Year Old Fine Blended Whisky is produced by Sasanokawa Shuzo Company Limited, which started whisky production in 1946. This whisky is a blend of carefully selected malt whiskies and long-aged grain whiskies, matured slowly and thoroughly in wooden casks. It offers a condensed mellow fragrance and complex flavor. The name '963' is inspired by the postcode of Koriyama city, Fukushima Prefecture, where the distillery is located. This blend includes whiskies from the Yamazakura and Hanyu distilleries. Intensity from the high ABV mellows out with caramel, wood spice, and smooth vanilla. Polished oak furniture, sweet spices such as liquorice and cinnamon, with heather honey, and some red berries. Fruity and mellow with aromas of vanilla, cherry, honey, chocolate, liquorice and nutmeg. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Palate
Autumn pears and plums, as the vanilla builds. Bakewell tart, blackberries, oaky vanilla, woody spice, and dustings of cocoa powder. Notes of sweet fruit, new oak, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla and mild spice. [1, 2, 3, 4]
