Description

Aberlour A'Bunadh is a cask-strength single malt whisky produced in limited batches, honoring an earlier style of whisky making at the Aberlour distillery. Each batch is hand-made using traditional methods, without chill filtration, and bottled at cask strength. This expression is exclusively aged in first-fill Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, resulting in a rich, complex, and intensely sherried whisky with notes of moist raisin and homemade fruit cake. The whisky is a vatting of barrels thought to range between 5 and 25 years of age, and each batch, while striving for a similar flavor profile, offers unique variations. Nose
Big and bold sherry flavors with raisins, figs, chocolate, and dark fruits like cherry and raspberry. Also notes of brown sugar, almonds, marzipan, menthol, hazelnuts, cocoa, leather, and spiced orange. Some wine notes, new leather, shoe polish, cola, and a peppery tingle.
Palate
Sweet and delicious, with fruits like cherry, raspberry, orange marmalade, and dried fruits (dates, apricots). Rich, thick, creamy mouthfeel with turbinado sugar, earth, leather, caramel, toffee, almonds, Nutella, and dark bitter chocolate. Liquorice, hot-spicy, and balsamic notes are also present.
Finish
Long, robust, and intense, with bittersweet notes of exotic spices, dark chocolate, oak, and liquorice. Earthy and rich, with an underlying caramelized sugar, leather, nuts, and subtle black pepper.
