Description
Akashi Red is a Japanese blended whisky produced by the Eigashima Distillery (also known as White Oak Distillery) in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Eigashima Shuzo, established in 1679, is one of Japan's oldest family-run distilleries and was the first to obtain a license to make whisky in Japan in 1919. This blended whisky combines malt and grain whiskies. It is aged in American White Oak Shochu casks for 2 years, followed by aging in ex-bourbon casks before finishing in ex-sherry casks for 1 year. The whisky is unique as it is made under the supervision of a Toji, a grand master of sake making, integrating traditional sake-making methods into the whisky production process. It is known for its approachable and versatile character, offering a smooth and easy drinking experience. [3, 4, 8, 11, 12, 14, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25]
