Description

Sarorunkamuy was the debut single malt release from Akkeshi. This bottling was produced in 2020, with variants for the European market (June 2020) and the domestic market (January 2020). Akkeshi is a Japanese distillery located in Hokkaido, known for its climate similar to the Scottish Outer Hebrides, where it ages its peated and non-peated single malt. It was aged in a combination of Mizunara, bourbon, sherry, and red wine casks.

Nose
The aroma is a complex blend of fermented peat, roasted chestnuts, and baked bread, with hints of toluene and imo. There are also delicate floral notes of eau de rose and rye toast, reminiscent of a dunnage warehouse.
Palate
The palate is greeted with an extremely thick and peaty distillate, akin to Port Charlotte, with layers of pear and honey. There are also flavours of malty cornbread and bubblegum.
Finish
The finish is medium in length, with a unique combination of sour chocolate and pressed lavender, followed by molasses, hay, and pistachio.
