Description

This 25-year-old was introduced to the premium end of Ardbeg's core range in winter 2020. It is bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the distillery's darkest days, when Ardbeg was out of production for large parts of the 1980s and 1990s. This supreme expression is known for its intricate, balanced, and beguiling character, proving that age cannot tame Ardbeg's smoky power but yields complex and majestic flavors. It is presented in a sleek black bottle housed in a gun metal casket encased within an intricate metal cage.

Nose
A pungent burst of smoked cream, peppermint and toffee, with Ardbeg's classic fennel and pine resin. Distant earthy bonfires mix with herbal and fruity (banana and tropical) notes, along with fragrant candle wax. Smoked pine resin, creamy vanilla, citrus, and eucalyptus are also present.
Palate
An extremely vibrant, hot peppery mouthfeel leads into a burst of sherbet lemon sweetness (candied apples, pears and orange), hints of carbolic soap and tar, more creamy toffee, aniseed and chilli pepper. Lush waves of citrus oil, coffee, dark chocolate, and oak spice layered over smoky malt.
Finish
A long, mellow, lingering aftertaste, with lots of cream, fudge and delicate antiseptic notes. Expect persistent waves of peat smoke, sweet spice, and a final flicker of anise and charred oak that dances on the tongue long after the last sip. Long, complex, and smoky, with dried fruit and gentle spiced sweetness.
