Description

The Ardbeg Grooves Committee Release is a bold, limited edition Islay single malt from Ardbeg Distillery, released in 2018 for Ardbeg Day. This expression was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and intensely charred red wine casks, which created deep grooves in the wood, enhancing the interaction between the spirit and the wood. Bottled at 51.6% ABV and non-chill filtered, it offers a distinctive smoky and spicy profile with notes of tarry peat smoke, dark berries, roasted coffee, and coastal salinity. This Committee Release was exclusively available to Ardbeg Committee members and is considered a collectible and characterful bottling.

Nose
Deep earth peat and smoke, with notes of honey-glazed ham, smoked fish, and sea breeze. Bright citrus (lemon, lime), dried apricot, raspberry, and sweet malt are present, alongside spicy cinnamon, paprika, aniseed, and vanilla. Hints of tar, creme brulee, and caramel popcorn.
Palate
A rich, oily mouthfeel with a prominent campfire smoke and dry, crumbly peat. Sweet notes of caramelized apple, dark cherry, white grape, and tropical fruits like mango and papaya are balanced by spicy cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and aniseed. Hints of toasted vanilla, salted caramel, and charred meat.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering earthy, ashy peat smoke and dry wood smoke. Notes of red berry sweetness, sweet plum, candied ginger, and burnt orange peel. Spicy elements of ground pepper, aniseed, and oaky spice, with hints of salted caramel and toffee.
