Description

This rare and highly sought-after Ardbeg Lord of the Isles 25 Year Old is a supreme expression from the iconic Islay distillery, named after the historic rulers of the Western Isles. Released between 2001 and 2007, this 25-year-old single malt was slowly matured in oak barrels, including a vatting of bourbon and sherry casks, and is non-chill filtered to retain maximum flavor. It showcases a masterful balance of mature complexity and Ardbeg's signature peated intensity.

Nose
Deep, rich, and sweet with chocolate, marzipan, cherries, leather, and an oily characteristic. Peat, smoke, salt, woodsmoke, tarry rope, and delicate mandarin fruit, heather, and lavender notes. Also, mineral notes, grapefruit, menthol, and sometimes Irish Spring soap.
Palate
Powerfully peaty and chewing, with a luscious silky and oily mouth-feel. Sweet vanilla, chocolate, and cocoa giving way to a crescendo of peat. Smoky, citrusy, tart, with grapefruit juice, campfire smoke, earthy, damp peat, honey, charred oak, and gentle salt. Also, mineral-rich character, toffee, sweet caramel, dark chocolate with sea salt, and lemon juice.
Finish
Long and dry with chocolate malt, crushed peat, sweet hickory, smoke, soft, earthy peat, and mineral flavors. Saltier, more lemony, with almond and pine resin.
