Description

Ardbeg Smokiverse is the 2025 Ardbeg Day release, created to celebrate 25 years of the Ardbeg Committee. This intense Islay single malt is the distillery's first whisky crafted using an experimental 'high-gravity mash' technique. This process involves reducing the amount of water and increasing the grain in the mash tun, which magnifies the intensity of flavour-active acetate esters, resulting in a fruitier, sweeter, and more tropical spirit. The spirit was matured in ex-bourbon barrels. Bottled at 48.3% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and of natural colour.

Nose
An explosion of fruity, estery notes, reminiscent of smoked bubblegum, fused with whiffs of ripening barley and toasted sourdough bread. Sweet aromas of barley sugars, vanilla fudge, and butterscotch lead the way, with baked apple, peach, and juicy pineapple. A medicinal and acrid peat smoke is prominent, alongside malty oat biscuits and green herbal bitterness.
Palate
A rich, creamy mouthfeel with highly confected notes. Sweet, sugary, and smoky, with toasted marshmallow, candy floss, and strawberry shoelaces. Baked green apple, menthol, vanilla paste, muscovado sugar, malty biscuits, toffee, fudge, and tropical cordial. Plenty of peat smoke, with a medicinal and earthy edge, ash, creosote, aniseed, and clove.
Finish
Very long, with a dusty, ashy character and lingering sweetness. Earthy peat moss fuses with sizzling bonfire embers. A hint of grapefruit peel, distinct oaky dryness, light peppery notes, and gingerbread.
