Description

Established in October 2010 by Martin Armstrong, Whiskybroker.co.uk aims to source and sell casks of whisky to enthusiasts and clubs wishing to purchase larger quantities of whisky at cheaper prices per bottle. Nose: Coffee, leather, honey, hazelnuts and shoe polish. There is some smoke, sure, but not more than what I sometimes find in this sherry. Let's keep it at woodsmoke.
Palate: quite creamy and immediately honeysweet with a sour touch as if from grapefruit. But the smokiness is now unmistakable and keeps your mouth warm. That makes up for a lot. Again hazelnuts – make that Nutella – roasted coffee beans, sultanas and dates. But again… feels like tasting an enhanced sherry.
Finish: medium long on more of the same, but leaves the mouth dry.

This reads as sherry-led, with smoke kept fairly restrained on the nose before becoming much more apparent on the palate. That shift gives the sweeter notes of hazelnut, coffee and dried fruit a useful counterpoint. The character sounds appealingly layered, though the description also suggests the sherry influence can feel enhanced enough to crowd the whisky’s own character. The dry, medium-long finish gives the sweetness a practical balance.
