Description

Located upon the breathtaking Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan distillery is a comparatively new powerhouse which opened for production in 2014. Champions for green manufacturing, the distillery and all of its by-products are environmentally friendly and entirely sustainable. Ardnamurchan uses malt from Broomhill Farm and boasts two whisky styles; one peated and one unpeated, using American and European... This specific bottling, AD/04:16 CK.411, was personally selected by Roy from the Aqvavitae YouTube channel. Distilled in April 2016, it matured in an ex-Adelphi unpeated refill hogshead for 7 years until September 2023, resulting in a release of 324 bottles. It is bottled at 55% abv, free from chill filtration and artificial colouring.

Nose
A light white pepperiness, aloe drops, creamy vanilla, lime zest, herbal smoke (not peat, more charred wood), dusty wardrobes and fudge chocolate bars. A touch varnishy but not in a bad way. Pencil shavings/graphite aromas along with the faintest suggestion of fresh mango.
Palate
Chocolate and malt, with a fair whack of young alcohol, a touch of rubber, black pepper spice and toasted oak. A touch of coastal salinity. Mouthfeel reminds of a thin caramel, lacking a little bit of viscosity but still with some texture.
Finish
Quite sweet, caramel and toffee notes, but dissipates quicker than desired. Time and air brings out more of an oily note, petrol-like, along with burnt toast.
