Description

One of two malt whisky distilleries owned by Isle of Arran Distillers, Lochranza was the first to be opened in 1995. The distillery's flagship single malt brand is the Arran label and although it now only distils a non-peated whisky, it has historically produced peated single malt as well. The Arran 14 Year-Old is a smooth and richly rewarding expression of the Arran Malt bursting with character and complexity. The extra years of maturation have added a depth of sweetness and spice to create a fully rounded and satisfying dram. It was aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, specifically matured for an initial 12 years in bourbon barrels and then received a 2-year finish in a mix of 1st fill bourbon barrels and 1st fill sherry hogsheads.

Very fragrant and perfumed with peaches, brandy, ginger snaps, vanilla, mild oak, ripe pineapples, fresh-cut hay, dried fruits, toffee, tropical fruits, sea salt, nuts, and a lovely minerality.
Palate
Smooth and creamy with spicy summer fruits, apricots, hazelnuts, soft vanilla, sweet citrus notes, caramelized oranges and apples, warming toffee apples, milk chocolate, spiced teacake, pineapple, melon, canned peaches, white grapes, plums, banana, sea salt, oak, and light spices.
Finish
Lingering, spicy, biscuity, slowly drying with a hint of salt, caramels, floral notes, tannins from oak, warm, layered, cinnamon spices, licorice, pineapple, earthy, fruity, light sherry notes, vanilla cream, and a slightly sour tannic note.
