Description
Situated in the Firth of Clyde, the island of Arran was once a hotbed of illicit distillation and smuggling. Eventually though the dreaded Excise men got the best of Arran's renegade stillmen, and the island was without a working distillery from 1837. That all changed in 1995 when the Arran distillery at Lochranza started production. Although it is a relative youngster, Arran's investment in quality has made it a well-regarded distillery. This is the fifth batch of Arran's 12-year-old cask strength, bottled in May 2015 at 52.9% ABV. It is a combination of first-fill sherry butts, refill sherry hogsheads, and first-fill bourbon barrels, and was released as a limited edition of 18,000 bottles. It is non-chill filtered and has natural color. [2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16, 20]
