Description

The cask strength release of the Machrie Moor has now joined the range of core releases from the Arran distillery for good. The smokiness comes through at first but is quickly chased by light fruity notes, making for a complicated but easy drinking experience. It is a peated single malt crafted to encapsulate the rugged and myth-strewn landscape of the island of Arran.

Nose
Citrus notes with a background of peat and a puff of smoke immediately apparent, with hints of wood smoke, damp and earthy forest floor, lemon, lime, and sweet perfumed notes.
Palate
A robust dram with typical orchard fruits of Arran coming to the fore over a layer of toasted brioche and red berries, along with notes of aniseed balls, star anise, faint fennel, and tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, and coconut.
Finish
Long lasting, creamy vanilla and coconut notes from the bourbon cask, with lingering sweet aniseed, a smattering of peaty smoke, citrus, chocolate, and oak and spice.
