The 8 Doors name is inspired from Jan De Groot, the man that John O'Groats takes it's name from. It is said to avoid family conflict between himself and his 7 sons on who should sit at the head of the table during family gatherings, Jan built an octagonal house with eight doors, one for each of his sons and himself.
