Description

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by Phillip 'Pip' Hills who, while travelling around Scotland in the 1970s, fell in love with whiskies drawn straight from the cask. After he expanded his syndicate the Society was purchased by Glenmorangie PLC in 2004. In 2015, the Society was sold back to private investors. Nose
A rich, dark and brooding nose of treacle tart, blackcurrant jam, plum wine, balsamic glaze, old leather, tobacco leaf, dried figs, dates and a hint of liquorice. With water, more dried fruits emerge, along with dark chocolate, espresso and a touch of menthol.
Palate
The palate is a big, chewy, mouth-coating affair with notes of black forest gateau, kirsch, dark chocolate, prune juice, black cherry, dried cranberries and a hint of chilli heat. With water, more fruit emerges, along with a touch of ginger.
Finish
A long, warming finish.
