Description

The Banff 1975 33 Year Old Jim McEwan's Celtic Heartlands is a rare single malt whisky from the now-silent Banff distillery, which closed in 1983 and was demolished in 1991. This limited edition bottling, distilled in 1975 and matured for 33 years before being bottled in 2008, was specially selected by legendary distiller Jim McEwan for the Celtic Heartlands range. Only 449 bottles were produced. The Banff distillery, located in the Highland region of Scotland, had a tumultuous history marked by fires, explosions, and even a bombing during WWII. This independent bottling by Murray McDavid comes in a stunning presentation case.

Nose
Breathe in an initial rush of sensual dark chocolate, sticky treacle and coffee beans followed by walnut and a fluttering of lovely spicy, peppery notes and just as you think this is all that's on offer, the nuances pull back to reveal notes of golden toffee, rich vanilla beans and plenty of stone fruit.
Palate
Oaky and firm with overtones of dried apricot, candied ginger, cinnamon and more lovely spiciness. There is just a hint of smoke which just drifts across the middle of the palate.
Finish
The distillery may be no longer but the memories live on in this evocative dram. This is the rarest of the rare.
