Description

A historic malt distillery located in the Highland region of Scotland. Since 1989 it has been Japanese-owned as part of the Asahi Group. Although it only produces single malt today, the distillery dabbled in grain whisky production from 1955 to 1984, even producing rare examples of single blends. This Ben Nevis 1995 is the very first bottling from The Whisky Jury, an independent bottling company based in Belgium, founded in 2019 by Joeri Van Den Broeck. It was matured for almost 24 years in a refill hogshead.

Nose
Prominent waxy notes, with balm, oak polish, green bananas, peaches, pineapple cubes, citrus, floral honey, marshmallow, crushed mint leaves, chalk, and sage. Also notes of candied fruit, damp earth, passion fruit, pear, apple, orange peel, cherry, banana bread, honey, rubber, flint, wet wool, faint farmy notes, fern, hazelnut, biscuit, chocolate, mineral touches, dunnage, grapefruit, pickled lemon, and mango.
Palate
Oily texture with fruity notes of pineapple, guava, lime, tropical fruits, green tea, herbs, light mineral notes, verbena, and wax. Also peach, orange, old leather, caramel, rich honey, oak, wood spices, flint, coriander, and papaya.
Finish
Long, oily, and sappy, with fruity echoes, greasy notes, pepper, herbal edge, wood spice, and sweeter notes returning. Also lingering fruits, herbal tea, minerals, and a pinch of pepper.
