Description

This is a 31-year-old Ben Nevis Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled in 1984 and bottled in 2016 for La Maison du Whisky's 60th anniversary. It was initially aged for 13 years in first-fill bourbon casks before being re-racked into oloroso sherry casks for an additional 18 years of maturation. This single cask release (cask #98/35/2) resulted in 600 bottles at a cask strength of 56.4% ABV.

Nose
Roses, praline-scented, coffee, herbaceous, honeysuckle, hyacinth, spices and chillies. Also fruity and floral with notes of Mirabelle plum.
Palate
Rich, nuanced with honey, praline, cocoa, lily and fruit. The mid-palate is remarkably spicy (star anise). Then it moves into the shade of some lime blossom that exudes its gorgeous fragrance. Thick and mouthcoating with lovely zesty, citric fruitiness, a whisper of smoke, pipe tobacco, dates, rose petals, lychees, blackcurrants and Demerara sugar.
Finish
Long, balanced. Liquorice candy, rum baba, camomile and vervain. Soft dryness with lingering pepper, subtle acidity and stewed fruits notes.
