After being founded by John Duff & Co in 1897, the distillery was mothballed for 65 years with only its floor maltings being used for the Longmorn distillery next door. Nose
A big experience with peat, seaweed, vanilla, and herbs complementing a rich Tawny Port presence, along with chocolate, jelly beans, smoke, rosemary, floral, hazelnut, pepper, wet wood, red wine, salt, baked pear, Key lime, and meringue.
Palate
Wonderful sweet peat, bog myrtle, and seaweed, with hints of vanilla, citrus, wild flowers, and a rich infusion of Port. Also notes of jelly beans, smoke, cocoa, chipotle, strawberry, walnut, mild peat, butterscotch, red wine, chocolate mousse, candied almonds, roasted almonds, and berries.
Finish
Chocolate, earth, orange peel, floral, grain, ginger, bell pepper, peanut, dry, oily, medium-long, with pencil shavings, rum raisin, soft leather, dark chocolate, madeira sweetness, orange, and lingering smoke.
