Description
Alive with powdery charcoal puffs, swirls of mint and a chorus of wild honey notes, Benriach Shades of Smoke Edition No. 1 is a remarkably smoky Speyside whisky. Born from the creative mind of Master Blender Rachel Barrie, this 31 year old single malt was distilled in 1994. The spirit was laid down in the spring and summer of 1994, the very same year the distillery produced spirit with an abundance of peated malt. Inspired by this break in Speyside convention, Shades of Smoke Edition No. 1 is a rare expression that explores the intriguing layers of fruit with distinctive smoky notes. For Edition No. 1, Rachel Barrie has crafted a whisky combining five different cask styles: Bourbon casks, Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, and Virgin Oak casks. The result is a whisky of remarkable richness, depth and grown more nuanced as the peated Benriach spirit has aged over three decades. We have partnered with visual artist Stefano Contiero to create this limited edition artwork. Drawing inspiration from his experience of tasting this whisky, the art brings to life the swirling complexity of the liquid, with the rich, vivid colours that emerge like smoke.
