Description

The Big Peat Christmas Edition 2020 is the 10th annual festive release from Douglas Laing, presented as a limited edition at natural cask strength. This Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a marriage of 100% single malts from Islay distilleries, including Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila, and the legendary Port Ellen. It is bottled without colouring or chill-filtration, offering a potently peaty punch with an ashy avalanche of peat smoke and hints of sea salt and damp earth.

Nose
Vibrant, peaty and somewhat minty with an impressive coastal backdrop, including kippers, seaweed, iodine, vanilla custard, charred lemon peel, green apple, sauerkraut, soot, and rubber soles. Intense peat with coastal and fleshy influences, yellow fruit (banana, peach, apricot, apple), lemon cream, toasted bread, and mustard.
Palate
Mouth-coating with a sweet arrival of stone fruits, salty chips, pickled lemon, and a big hit of peat smoke. Gentle peppery spices, earthy quality, liquorice, cola, orange soda, and a sparkling flavor that livens the wave of vegetable smoke on fruity and sweet tones.
Finish
Lingering notes of soot and tar with a pinch of black pepper. Fairly long with off embers, fruit jelly, salt, and sweet smoke.
