Douglas Laing's Islay distilleries are renowned for their predominantly peaty, smoky character, offering variations on the theme of ash, beach bonfires, coal dust and tar. Big Peat, the characterful fisherman, encapsulates that feisty spirit of Islay in this very bottle. Bottled at high alcohol strength without chill-filtration, allowing the natural oily character of the big peated spirit to reign supreme. This bold and distinctive expression celebrates the charm and intensity of whiskies from the Isle of Islay, including Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and Port Ellen.

Full-bodied aroma, fresh, salty and clean, developing to sweet malt dried over peat. Heavy smoke, soft but intense, with hints of smoked ham, earthly notes, vanilla, and malt.
Palate
Extremely rich and very balanced in flavour. Robust and full, with ashes, sweet tar, beaches, smoking chimneys, peat smoke, dark chocolate, subtle marine notes, spices, salt, and hints of tobacco.
Finish
Quite rich and lovely smooth texture, with a quick finish that replicates the palate with salty, tangy licorice, smoke, bonfire ashes, and a phenolic quality.
