Description

United Distillers started the F&F series in 1992 consisting of 26 different single malts. Originally the range did not have a name. However the late whisky writer Michael Jackson nicknamed it the "Flora and Fauna" because of the various depictions on the labels. The name has stuck, and is known worldwide as Flora and Fauna. The older F&F range in the wooden box, which is much harder to find. This single malt whisky is part of Diageo's Flora and Fauna series that highlights underrepresented distilleries.

Nose
Nutty with sherried notes, gentle oak char, crisp. Sweet white wine, oak, toffee, and biscuity notes. Slight citrus, orange juice, banana, chocolate, mokka, butterscotch, caramel apple, hazelnuts, raisins, apricot, and a small whiff of smoke. Inviting aromas of dried fruit, malt, and honey with notes of toasted nuts, rich oak, and gentle spice.
Palate
Good body, malty and sweet with citrus and its peels. Gingerbread, nutty, dried fruits, and sweet sherry taste. Sweet and mouth coating, like syrup, turning slightly bitter and dry. Malt, sherry, salted caramel, pepper, chocolate covered raisins, Sultana, orange peel, apple, and ginger. Smooth and rounded, offering flavours of fruitcake, sweet malt, and sherry richness balanced by hints of cocoa and spice.
Finish
Toasty oak, syrup, good sweetness, bittersweet, and drying. Short to medium, spicy oak and nuts, a bit dry to start with, though ends with a wee burst of sweetness. Medium, sweet, dry and a bit hot with a lingering sweet taste. A small earthy note appears after a while. Long and warming, with lingering notes of nutty sweetness, soft oak, and a touch of dryness.
