Description

Blood Oath Pact No. 5 is the fifth installment in the acclaimed Blood Oath ultra-premium bourbon series, created by Lux Row Distillers' Head Distiller and Master Blender John Rempe. This 2019 limited release is a masterful blend of three Kentucky Straight Bourbons: an 8-year-old ryed bourbon finished for six months in Caribbean rum barrels, an 11-year-old silky wheated bourbon, and a 13-year-old extra-aged ryed bourbon. Bottled at 49.3% ABV (98.6 proof), this expression offers a well-balanced, spicy-sweet, and lingering profile with complex flavor notes. Each bottle is presented in a fire-branded wooden display box and is part of a limited outturn of 45,000 bottles.

Nose
Sweet, mature, voluptuous, with complex sugars, orange blossom honey, brown sugar, caramel apples, orange jelly candies, and subtle hints of flat cola and light molasses. Underlying notes of vanilla bean, candied almonds, stoneground wheat crackers, toasted rye grain, and weighty oak with allspice, dried orange peel, cinnamon candies, nutmeg, and black pepper. Dark fruit, brown sugar, and a touch of orange zest are also present, along with sugar cane, dark chocolate, honey, caramel, and a hint of mint.
Palate
A wonderful, almost syrupy mouthfeel, full of complex sweetness including honey, juicy orange, light molasses, maple sugars, and cola. The rye is upfront, toasty and spicy, complemented by wheat cracker and strong vanilla notes. Robust, grippy oak, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, black peppercorns, and a faint hint of barrel char and burnt popcorn. Sweet dark rum notes, vanilla, caramelized sugar, and dark fruit are also evident.
Finish
Long and warm, with lingering hints of sugars, toasty grains, oak, and peppery spice. Notes of brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon red hots, warming spicy rye heat, vanilla, aged oak, and leather. A rich, satisfying close with chocolate, vanilla, and island spice.
