Description

The oldest operational distillery on the isle of Islay, built in 1779. Today it is part of the Suntory Group, having been acquired by the Japanese company in 1994. Under their ownership it has been nurtured into one of the most collectable names in Scotch whisky. This is a vintage 'dumpy bottle' release from the 1980s, produced during the Morrison's Bowmore era before the Suntory acquisition. [2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 17, 18, 19]

Nose
Briny, with exotic fruits like ripe apples, peaches, and dried figs, intertwined with cinnamon, fresh mint, toasted oak, and subtle peat smoke. Hints of caraway seeds and earthy notes are also present.
Palate
Delightful flavors of dark chocolate and warm butterscotch, layered with nutty almond and a hint of anise, all enveloped in a creamy, smooth texture. Also notes of green vegetal, sour apple, smoked grapefruit, and white ash peat smoke.
Finish
Long and warmly satisfying, marked by spiced caramel nuances and a whisper of smoked sea salt. Tangy fruit, salty, herbal, charred green peppers, white pepper, and brine linger.
