- Nose
- Delightfully on petrol and putty at first, though this turns to waxy lemon, pepper, and a touch of earthy peat. A smidge of creamy vanilla. The peat gets a really nice truffle quality. A single drop of sea water, and again more touches of plastic. Crushed grapeseed and linseed oil. Also, straw and moss with prominent but not overpowering smoke, lavender, spices, and laundry softener notes.
- Palate
- Crisp and sharp, lemony, some oak but also quite some spices (cinnamon and ginger), lime even. There's also a bit of a cocktail-like bitterness. Sweet with vanilla, with big floral hints that were present on the nose as well. It's rather sharp for a 51.8% dram, but again, not overpoweringly so. I also get some fresh juicy apple. Softer though saltier, still smoky, still sweet. Gets sweeter with time. A nice wormwood bitterness floats below.
- Finish
- Mellows out quickly, fairly short, more malty than expected. Warmer all of a sudden with a lot more cask to be tasted. The oaky notes are pretty big here. Also the vanilla again with maybe some dried flowers in the background. Burnt leaves, burnt pages, and the nose's menthol note. It gradually picks up some sweetness, salt, very green grassiness, and hint of bitterness.
