Description

A private members club established by Pip Hills in 1983, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is renowned for its unique coded method of non-disclosure of their distilleries of origin. This 17-year-old Bowmore (Distillery 3) was released as a 'Rare Release - Fruity time travel' in celebration of the Islay Whisky Festival 2022. It is a vatting of multiple casks, matured in 2nd fill ex-Bourbon Hogsheads, with an outturn of 1326 bottles.

Nose
Abundant soft, almost overripe, exotic fruits (charred pineapple, mirabelle plums, mango, guava). Wispy peat smoke, bonfire embers, lemon zest, floral aromas, perfume-like quality, citrus spray, Anbesol mouth gel, seawater, pink grapefruit, light antiseptic notes.
Palate
More peat than the nose, but still lightly peated. Predominantly fruity and floral. Slick of sweet, velvety peat. Oily texture. Vivid notes of mango, passion fruit, guava jam, exotic fruit salad juices, sharper tones of grapefruit and seawater. Coriander, charred citrus peel, lavender, lychees, pink peppercorns, herbal salt.
Finish
Slightly soapy lather-y aftertaste, clean, floral, herbal. Slightly peppery with pink peppercorns and lavender. Slightly sour but really floral. Smoked lychees, smoked olive oil, mineral salts, resinous and herbal peat smoke. Sweet and saline in perfect balance.
