Description

A single cask single malt brand originally introduced by Douglas Laing & Co in 1998. It served the company until 2014 when it was one of the assets that were divided off into a new entity called Hunter Laing & Co. It remains its flagship independent bottling brand to this day. This 1981 vintage Brora was distilled in September and aged in a sherry butt for 18 years, yielding 747 bottles in July 2000. Brora is a storied distillery in the Sutherland area of Scotland that, despite having closed in 1983, developed cult status.

Nose
A huge blast of smoke, with sulfurous, rubbery, and carbolic qualities. Charred and caramelized barbeque pork. Spicy floral habanero peppers, mango, and lime. Earthy spice and tobacco, with hints of apple, vanilla, caramel, and lemon.
Palate
Medium-heavy body with fresh fruit and malt sweetness, followed by savoury woodsmoke, coastal notes of minerals, seaweed, sea salt, mud, and iodine. Sweet, floral black tea, pineapple, oak, and clove. BBQ pork ribs, honey mustard, cocoa, vanilla, applewood, and cigar ash.
Finish
Long and spicy-tart. Seawater, minerals, and bonfire embers. Almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg, macerated apple, and lime. Campfire smoke and roasted pork meat, apple sauce and caramel.
