Mothballed by previous owners Whyte & Mackay, Bruichladdich distillery was revived in the year 2000 by independent bottler Murray McDavid. For a long time the distillery was the black sheep of Islay, on account of producing unpeated whisky in order to meet its owner's blending requirements. Delicate light floral notes with creamy vanilla, rich floral honey, kiwi, melon, coconut, ripe pear, and citrus. Hints of oak spice, toffee, and chocolate, with cereal notes, dried hay, barley straw, and malty biscuit.
Palate
Creamy texture with sweet oak and barley, popping like champagne bubbles. Notes of ripe green fruit, brown sugar, sweet malt, vanilla wafers, sugared almonds, oatcakes, buttered bread, spring blossom, lemon, honey, dried ginger, coffee cake, black pepper, and a full, rich mouthfeel.
Finish
Sweet, stoned fruits, creamy vanilla custard, coconut, and a delicate floral note. Hints of spicy oak, mint chocolate, walnut loaf, fresh and dried ginger, lemon, coffee cake, black pepper, brine, salted caramel, charred oak, cinnamon spice, dark chocolate shavings, and a dash of sea salt.
