Description

Mothballed by previous owners Whyte & Mackay, Bruichladdich distillery was revived in the year 2000 by indy bottler Murray McDavid. Nose
Raspberry, dried cranberry, sea salt, buttery almonds, grains, caramel sweetness. With time airing out, an oxidized milk chocolate note comes out. Very fruity and coastal aroma.
Palate
Bright and sweet up front. Honey, dried cranberries again, very vibrant and a little salty. Ground pepper, orchard fruits. Full-bodied meaty red wine, with the grapes and the woody spice providing a brief moment that's almost armagnac-y.
Finish
The age is felt most strongly here… Pleasant, rich bitterness to offset the sweetness, lots of peppery oak spice. Very rich and dry now but not tannic. Big red wine again, with astringent grape skins, then earthy pungent tea leaves (pu-ehr?) and unsmoked tobacco.
