Description

Octomore 10.1 is the first release in the tenth edition of Bruichladdich's super-heavily peated Octomore series. Distilled in 2013 from 100% Scottish Concerto barley, peated to 107 ppm, and matured for 5 years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks from distilleries like Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace, and Jack Daniel's. It was bottled in 2018 at a cask strength of 59.8% ABV, non-chill filtered, and without added color. This limited edition release consists of 42,000 bottles, showcasing a 'softer smoke' profile compared to some previous Octomore expressions.

Nose
Sweet, peaty & medicinal. Tar, ink, iodine, aniseed, muddy peat, smoked bacon, pine needles, vanilla sugar syrup, fruit lollies. Also, sweet and savoury, vanilla, smoked ham with ripe melon and charred lemon, coastal notes with capers and whitefish, smoked apples and lemongrass, coal smoke, linseed oil, dusty attic.
Palate
Syrupy sweet entry with fruit lollies, big burst of dry chilli spice and pepper charred oak, muddy, earthy peat, smoked fish, iodine, charred lemon, slight rubbery note, aniseed, old-style cough drops. Very thick and oily mouthfeel. Charred biscuits with frosting, wallop of smoke, pepper and salt, salty liquorice, industrial and coastal, ginger, fennel and char.
Finish
Long length. Spicy initially with black pepper, clove and dried chilli, then more chunky muddy peat and iodine, a little more lemon, distant pine needles, gingery charred oak and permanent marker pen. Lingering coal and ash, astringent and woody.
