Description

The Octomore 11.2 Dialogos is a 5-year-old super heavily peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Bruichladdich Distillery. It was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2020 at 58.6% ABV. This expression is part of the Octomore 11 series, with the '.2' designation indicating European oak maturation. The whisky is a blend of two parcels: 25% matured full-term in ex-Pauillac wine casks, and 75% matured in ex-American whiskey casks before being finished for 18 months in St Julien ex-Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks. It is non-chill filtered and has a peat level of 139.6 PPM. This release was an online exclusive, with an outturn of 18,000 bottles.

Nose
Rich oak, dried fruit, citrus and smoke initially. Maritime notes, sweet toasted oak and malt sugar follow, with figs, dried apricot and cherry. Hints of red berries, sour cherries and Christmas stollen, with rum in raisins. More leather and oak spice.
Palate
Superb texture, soft and gentle with toasted nuts, oak sugar, chocolate, toffee, sweet dried fruit, citrus, honey and darker smoke. Sweet and spicy, rich and mouth coating. Chilis, creme brûlée, walnuts, fruit leather. Leafy, with tobacco and plenty of spice (nutmeg, clove, pepper) mixing with sweet plums, cherry liqueur and glazed bacon.
Finish
Rubbery smoke, a little antiseptic and dry, with the fruit fading as the smoke and oak take over and leave a huge presence behind. Lots of complex bitter flavors, unsweetened chocolate, tobacco, too much chili, some lingering sweetness and nuttiness. Long, ashy, woody with lots of vanilla.
