Description

Octomore 14.4 is the fourth and final installment in Bruichladdich Distillery's 14th edition of heavily peated whiskies. This 5-year-old Islay Single Malt was distilled in 2017 from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley, peated to 106 PPM. In a distillery first, it was matured exclusively in Colombian Virgin Oak casks, which were toasted and charred at various levels to create a complex flavor profile. Bottled in 2023 at 59.2% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and coloring-free, and was released as a distillery exclusive with a limited outturn of 3,540 bottles.

Nose
Dry earthy peat smoke and charred oak, followed by tropical fruit and sweet toasted oak. Hints of iodine, barbeque sweetness, peach, mango, passion fruit, pear drops, light vanilla, and coconut.
Palate
Warming and soft, with smoky notes of charred oak and peat smoke, balanced with apple, pear, wood spices, and aromatic black pepper. Resinous oak showcases fruity character, with notes of sweet malt and popcorn emerging with water.
Finish
Long and lingering, with strengthening smoke and iodine. Caramel and vanilla provide balance, but peaty smoke prevails. Earthy mineral forest aspects, cedar, silex, and white pepper.
