Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 05.1 / 5_169 is a limited-edition release of the world's most heavily peated whisky: Bruichladdich's Octomore. The cult favourite single malt was introduced in 2008, and continues to raise the bar for heavily peated whiskies everywhere. Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 05.1 / 5_169 has been made with barley malted to a whopping 169ppm. The single malt matured for 5 years in American oak casks, and was bottled in 2012 at 59.5%.

Nose
Deep, earthy peat smoke with notes of honey, vanilla, butter, caramel fudge, and dark chocolate. There's also a fresh maritime breeze, hints of heather, wildflowers, fennel, cranberries, orange, and salt.
Palate
Luxuriously soft and spicy, with initial notes of juniper oil, peat smoked barley, salted biscuits, light iodine, and crushed cinnamon. This is followed by citrus flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, honeyed lemon, pear, and pineapple, balancing marine notes and oaky ginger. Some describe it as thick, warm vanilla cream, soft fruit, smoky oak, and smoked meats with chocolate, cardamom, paprika, and licorice root.
Finish
Long, warm, and pleasant, with lingering peat and orange. It's described as eternal, angelic, smoky, with subtle briny licorice, tobacco, spicy sweetness, umami salt, and hints of smoky butterscotch.
