Description

The Bunnahabhain 18 Years Old Small Batch is a richly sherried, unpeated Islay single malt Scotch whisky, known for its complex and warming character. The distillery, established in 1881, is situated on the Sound of Islay, and for decades was only accessible by sea. This expression is matured for 18 years, resulting in a deep mahogany color and a profile that balances dried fruit, honeyed nuts, toffee, and a distinctive coastal saltiness. It is bottled at 46.3% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with natural color, reflecting the distillery's commitment to quality.

Nose
Fragrant with notes of dried fruit, rich honeyed nuts, toffee, and slight hints of spice. Salted caramel, nutmeg, and a leathery quality also emerge, alongside rich sherry, raisins, nuts, dried mixed citrus peel, plums, figs, and cinnamon, with an elegant oak fragrance.
Palate
Mellow sherried nuts, dried fruit, rich oak, and toffee, with a slight tang of salt. Dense, rich sherried notes are perked up with coastal saltiness, roast chestnuts, and gentle wood spice. It also presents spicy notes, Oloroso and Amontillado sherry, nutty, spicy, a hint of salted chocolate, rosemary, sweet sage, barrel spice, fizzy chilli spice, and a lovely oily mouthfeel. Mixed stewed fruit, baking spices, chocolate, salted caramel, and tobacco are also present.
Finish
A dry fruit finish with a hint of spice and salt. Woodspice becomes mixed spice, warming and lengthy, with salt and sherry towards the very end. Lingering sweet and savoury notes, dark fruit, leather, and chocolate.
