Description

Bunnahabhain stands a little apart from its brother Islay whiskies. It's generally known for its unpeated style and its use in blends. It's sometimes known cheekily as the unpronounceable malt. We reckon it probably gets more unpronounceable with the more Bunnahabhain you drink. You can always tell a Boutique-y Whisky Company bottle from the rest, with its signature hand drawn cartoon labels full ...

Nose
Great mix of beeswax and furniture polish, with apricots and a hint of marshmallows. Yellow apples, meadow flowers, leathery notes, walnuts, perhaps a hint of turpentine, heather, and cigars. Complex and brilliantly aromatic, with perfume, red licorice, Christmas baking spices, fruitcake, raspberry cheesecake, and a hint of barley malt. Polish, golden tobacco, dusty leather, sweet and sour citrus, fresh oranges, light minerality, tart apples, peaches, and ripe melon. [1, 2, 3]
Palate
Half earthy, half fruity. Orange cake, apples, and honey sweetness, with heathery/grassy touches, soft nutty notes, and leather. Sweet notes of dark fruits with a lager flavor, Washington Red apple skin, smooth, low heat, and thicker viscosity. Fruity and quite woody, with a gentle arrival, mouth coating, oranges, peaches, tangerines, bananas (part fresh, part jammy), well-judged woodiness (vanillins, sandalwood, dusty oak, polished wood, steeped tea), and delicate spicing. [1, 2, 3]
Finish
Rather long, with leafy notes, a little pepper, and zesty citrus, with a honeyed edge. Flavors mostly fall away except for a lingering lager note, followed by honey. Long, and surprisingly not astringent despite 35 years of oak contact. Juicy fruits and polished wood fade. [1, 2, 3]
