The Bunnahabhain 44 Year Old 1978 Signatory 35th Anniversary is an exceptional Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by Signatory Vintage to celebrate their 35th Anniversary Collection. Distilled in 1978 and matured for an impressive 44 years in a single 2nd fill sherry butt (#7638), this rare expression was bottled in 2023 at natural cask strength, with just 238 individually numbered bottles released. This long-aged single malt showcases the distillery's signature unpeated style—elegant, maritime, and richly complex. The use of a refill Oloroso sherry butt allows for a subtle sherry influence, letting the distillery's character shine through while adding layers of dried fruit, gentle spice, and refined oak developed over decades. It is bottled without colouring or chill filtration.

Palate
Rich yet balanced, offering flavours of figs, raisins, toffee, subtle nutty oak, and gentle spice, with a silky texture and maritime edge. Also honey, a hint of marihuana, pears, herbs, Belgian Tripel beer, mild yellow fruit sweetness, and pine needles.
Finish
Long and elegant, with lingering sweet oak, dried fruits, soft spice, and a delicate coastal dryness. Also ginger, hay, walnuts, pears, aromatic herbs, damp cardboard, old walnuts, very old calvados, pine honey, and marzipan.
