Description

From Mossburn Distillers, owners of Torabhaig distillery, comes this heavily peated blended malt made up of Island whiskies. It is a classic 'Island style' Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, bold and smoky, yet approachable with a double cask finish that balances the heavy Island peat notes. Originally aged in refill and first-fill American Oak Hogsheads, the individual malts are blended and finished in smaller 200-litre fresh Bourbon Barrels. This final maturation adds layers of fragrant smoky oak, softening the medicinal peaty aromas while enhancing the sweetness and vanilla overtones on the palate. It is bottled without coloring or chill-filtration at 46% ABV.

Nose
The nose opens with bold, smoky aromas typical of island malts, intertwined with subtle medicinal notes and a hint of brine. The influence of the double cask finish introduces layers of sweet vanilla and mellow oak spice, with a fragrant, layered, complex character, floral particularly with aromas of white flowers, a honeyed peaty character and undertones of white pepper.
Palate
On the palate, the whisky is full-bodied and characterful, with pronounced smoky flavors complemented by sweet notes of vanilla and caramel. The additional maturation in first-fill bourbon barrels brings out a rich, creamy texture, with hints of fresh oak and a touch of spice. It's soft, smooth peat to start, without becoming medicinal, then honeyed peppery notes, complex sweet spice and finishing with creamy vanilla.
Finish
The finish is long and warming, with the smoke lingering alongside a delicate balance of oak spice and sweetness, leaving a smooth, satisfying aftertaste. It's long, sweet, and ever so slightly drying, with more ashy smoke, brine, vanilla, lemon-lime, charred oak, pepper, and heather.
