Description

Berry Bros & Rudd are the oldest wine and spirit merchant in Britain, operating from the same premises in London's St James Street since their founding in 1698. This Chichibu 2014 is part of their Exceptional Casks series, an independent bottling of Japanese single malt whisky distilled at Chichibu distillery in 2014 and matured in a first fill barrel before being bottled in 2021. It is a single cask release, cask #3351, with a limited outturn of 213 bottles, bottled at cask strength and without added colour or chill filtration.

Nose
Lush aromas of ripe mango and lime juice drift out of the glass, mingling with spiced custard over apple sponge cake. A little time in the glass brings a chiselled maltiness into play along with a touch of desiccated coconut.
Palate
The palate is noticeably thick, showing a wonderful mouthfeel. The character is initially of dried malt, but soon develops into fresh citrus fruits, apricot yoghurt and banana bread, with a suggestion of wood smoke on the rear palate.
Finish
The finish brings spiced crème brûlée, dried apple and a mouth-watering note of ripening pineapple.
