Description

Clynelish 1996 Precious Liquors / Mayuka Yamamoto. The Clynelish distillery, as it is recognized today, was built in 1967 to replace the smaller distillery next-door. This whisky was distilled in 1996 and aged in a single hogshead before being bottled in 2021. The bottle and carton feature artwork by Mayuka Yamamoto, whose contemplative paintings focus on wide-eyed children wearing animal suits. This release is one of 318 bottles.

Nose
Typical Clynelish with beeswax, sweet tangerines and oranges, a little saltiness, dried fruit, grass, hay, hessian fabric, chalk, menthol, pine resin, empty beer glasses, flat apple cider, sourdough, plum jam, tinned apricots, dirty motor oil rags, and subtle medicinal notes. Water brings out pomelo, quince, and rhubarb.
Palate
Thick mouthfeel, stewed fruits, gooseberries, grapefruit albedo, tamarind paste, raw Thai eggplants, papaya, artichokes, salty, honey sweetness, lemon, pepper, oak, and red fruits.
Finish
Mid-long, salt, red fruits, lemon, caramel, pepper, fruit preserves, Danish pastries, lime, citrus zest, and Bird's eye chili.
