Description
James Ainslie & Co. Was originally set up in Leith in 1868 as a spirits merchant. They bought Clynelish near Brora in northeast Scotland in 1896 and completely re-built it. However the Pattison Crash at the turn of the century forced Ainslie's to sell Clynelish to James Risk in 1912 to focus on blending. The company merged with fellow blender Walter Baillie & Sons, Robertson Brothers and John Gill. This series of 'Ainslie & Heilbron' bottlings of Clynelish by Gordon & MacPhail are known to contain some of these secret Brora casks, originating from a period when casks from both Clynelish and the original Clynelish (renamed Brora) were often labeled simply as 'Clynelish'.
