Description

Juveniles is a famous bar, wine & spirit merchant and bistro located south of the 1st arrondissement in Paris. It was opened by Tim Johnston in March 1987 and still operates today. Bottled between 2003 and 2005, the blend was originally intended only for sale at Juveniles, however was rolled out further at the request first of Compass Box's French distributor, followed by others across Europe. This 2014 limited release was the third bespoke blend produced for Juveniles by Compass Box. On this occasion the marriage contains single malts from Clynelish and Glen Elgin.

The bright orchard fruit and creamy vanilla sound appealing, while the dry, tannic oak suggests a firmer finish. That contrast gives the description a useful bit of shape without promising a uniformly sweet whisky.

Juveniles has a lively, fruit-led character, with green apple, pear and citrus on the nose giving way to a sweeter, creamy palate of honey, vanilla and pineapple. That shift is appealing without making the whisky sound one-dimensional. The finish brings a firmer edge: dry tannic oak and grass sit alongside the fruit and subtle spice. That drier close may not suit everyone, but it gives the sweetness some balance. As a blended malt, it sounds approachable while still offering a bit of contrast.
