Compass Box's delicious Spice Tree is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, known for its rich and intense character. It was first launched in 2005 but faced controversy and was briefly discontinued due to its innovative oak-aging methods, which involved using French oak stave inserts, deemed non-compliant by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA). Relaunched in 2009, the whisky now uses a revised maturation process involving custom-made hybrid casks with heavily toasted new French oak heads and American oak bodies to achieve a similar spicy flavor profile. This non-age statement whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, is unpeated, and non-chill filtered. It has received multiple accolades, including Best Blended Malt Scotch at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in April 2015.
