Description
Cutty Sark's genesis was a lunch attended by Francis Berry, Hugh Rudd (the partners of Berry Bros. & Rudd) and artist James McBey - who suggested the name. The lighter style was created for the American market, which at the time was still in the grip of Prohibition. The first Scotch whisky to sell 1 million cases in the USA, its distinctive yellow label was initially a printer's error. [cite: Scotch Whisky Auctions] This Cutty Sark 25 Year Old is a blended Scotch whisky, matured for at least 25 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with a sizable portion being first-fill. It contains 95% Speyside malt whisky and 5% grain whisky. This particular bottling commemorates the acquisition of the Cutty Sark brand by The Edrington Group on 9 April 2010. [cite: Image]
