Description

This is a 16-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from the Dailuaine distillery, independently bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) as Cask No. 41.163. Distilled in March 2006, it was matured for 13 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead before being transferred to a first-fill Spanish oak Oloroso hogshead for finishing. Bottled in 2025 at a cask strength of 59.4% ABV, this release is part of a limited outturn of 252 bottles and is known by its evocative SMWS title, 'Balsamic Black Pepper, Strawberry And Rhubarb Crumble'. It was awarded '16yr Speyside Single Malt Scotch of the Year' at the New York International Spirits Competition 2024.

Nose
Cinnamon buns, peppermint oil, oranges and cranberries, alongside yoghurt-coated raisins and marzipan. Maple, oak, cinnamon, clove, apple and ginger cider, toasted sugars, cherry brandy, shoe polish, vanilla toffee, Jamaican ginger cake, dried sour cherry.
Palate
Dark 'n' stormy cocktail with spiced rum and ginger beer. Sweet and smooth, Canadian maple syrup over pecan granola. Chewy cherry and tangerine candy, Crème de mûre, hard toffee, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, Szechuan and mixed peppercorns.
Finish
Dried mango, dark cherries and black grapes. Maple, menthol, mineral, cola, black tea and red wine tannins, bitter salad leaf, Szechuan peppercorns, lime zest, chunky orange marmalade, tiny licorice root.
