Description

This 33-year-old Highland single malt whisky from Dalmore was distilled on March 21, 1973. It was initially matured in American white oak casks, then spent several years in Gonzalez Byass Sherry Casks, before a secondary maturation in Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques from Château Haut-Marbuzet in St. Estèphe, Bordeaux. This limited edition release of 1000 bottles was bottled in 2006 at 45% ABV and comes in a wooden presentation box.

Nose
Sweet yet savoury, with baked fruits, peach cobbler, damson, sloe berry, dried cherry and cassis, mixed with cigar and a hint of balsamic. Also notes of Christmas cake, marzipan, maraschino cherries, jammy fruitiness, deep coconut-oil, scented face cream, and sandalwood.
Palate
Sweet and funky notes play off each other, with concentrated berry fruits and orange bitters. Smooth, mouth-drying, with light sweetness to start, then brown sugar, oakwood, and a distinct wine flavour akin to liqueur chocolates. Elegant with raspberry notes and the richness of jam, extending with cooked fruit, cinnamon, and mellow oakiness. Also blackberries and liquorice.
Finish
Drying oak. Long finish with a hint of chocolate, chocolate truffles, sandalwood, and homemade toffees. Rich, ripe red fruit with a burst of fresh raspberries, a hint of cherries and lingering dryness.
