Description

A malt distillery that forms the Highland region representation in Diageo's Classic Malts of Scotland collection. The highest and coldest in Scotland, its unique setting and distilling practices all contribute to the production of a spirit that has been highly prized by blenders over the years. One of Scotland's most iconic and long-running independent bottling brands. Introduced by Gordon & MacPhail in the 1970s, it has been their flagship label ever since.

Nose
Old-style with paraffin, linseed oil, silver polish, sooty undertones, dried herbs, wildflowers, moss, ferns, vague sweetness of honey and marzipan. Also slightly smoky, vanilla, peach, pear, grass, barley, and a slight feel of sea breeze.
Palate
Oily, earthy, herbal notes with subtle peat and a salty edge. Ashes, hints of wet cardboard, bitter notes, briney olives, mint tea. Medicinal and dry, with hints of toffee, lemon, peach, orange, vanilla, green tea, and slight oakiness. Fairly thin on the front end, with herbal elements.
Finish
Medium, on bitter tea, leather, and resinous notes. Dry and peaty with spices of black pepper, nutmeg, cloves. Spicy, peppery, waxy, and drying.
