A Highland malt distillery that is currently part of the Scotch whisky holdings of the Distell Group. It is housed within a former mill that was built in 1785, and was converted into a distillery by blending firm, Brodie Hepburn, between 1965 and 1966. *

The sherry notes, vanilla and orchard fruit sound well balanced with the malt and spice. At 58.4% ABV, it’s a high-strength whisky, and the late chilli heat is a small reservation, but the character still sounds appealing.
The sherry notes sound rounded rather than heavy, with creamy vanilla and poached pear on the nose. The palate brings more energy, pairing sweet orchard fruit with vibrant spice and a grassy edge. That contrast gives it some interest while keeping the flavours approachable. The finish does turn sharply to chilli heat in its final stages, so it sounds less gentle at the close than at first.
