Description
This Dufftown 8 Year Old is an official bottling from one of the largest malt distilleries in the Diageo portfolio, primarily tasked with providing fillings for its blends. Single malt bottlings from Dufftown were rare under previous ownership, and today it contributes to The Singleton single malt brand. Dufftown was built in 1896, becoming part of the Arthur Bell & Sons portfolio in 1933. As with Blair Athol, Dufftown was regularly bottled as a single malt, despite its importance to Bell's blends. When the company was bought by Guinness in 1985, these bottlings stopped, with a distillery bottling returning in 1991 as part of United Distillers' Flora & Fauna series. This 8-year-old expression was bottled in the 1980s and reflects the storied heritage of the Dufftown distillery, known for its quality and tradition in Scotch whisky production [cite: 1, Whisky Auctioneer]. Dufftown whiskies are known for their smooth and accessible flavour profiles, with notes of fruit, honey, vanilla, and a subtle hint of spice. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and balanced spirit, mainly matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks.
