Nose
Hints of dried fruits, Oloroso and almonds, with a medium complexity of fruity, sherry, and vanilla notes. Savoury, beefy sherry with a slight oily touch, damp forest, eucalyptus, blackberries, vanilla, burnt caramel, roasted almonds, cherry syrup, cocoa powder, toffee, and a malty backbone with a touch of mint.
Palate
Spicy Christmas cake, sweet golden syrup with honeyed almonds, offering a distinctive, old-fashioned, rich mouthfeel. Cloying, seductive murkiness with rum, barley, toasted almonds, chocolate, dark oak, nutty notes, raisins, blackberries, toffee, baked apples, and developing oak spices with a light herbal, sourish/bitter edge. Almond oil, hazelnuts, fudge, pepper, cloves, burnt toast, melted butter, and milk chocolate.
Finish
Oaky, soft spices, mellow and warming. Spiced fruitcake with crème anglaise, fairly long with dried fruits and spices, mainly nutmeg. Short to medium in length, with lingering sherry richness and gentle spice.
